rhoda j farms alone

This was my final project during the summer 2009 intensive at MECA. The installation was a life-sized chicken coop recreated in a small gallery space. Viewers were meant to enter the smelly dark room and as their eyes adjusted experience the work through cracks of light coming from inside the coop where there was a 6×9′ photo collage of my mom’s chickens.  The idea was to closely recreate a coop, getting all the details correct so the silence of it would be especially conspicuous and uncomfortable. The piece was about absence and loss in the farming community.
